There’s a galaxy of textures to sift through on Adeline’s debut solo record [ad-uh-leen]; Svelte velvet R&B, elastic, bass-driven futurefunk, and equal parts liquid-y and lounge-ready chillout all fuse into one widely varied landscape on the 2018 album. The nu-disco maven for Brooklyn band Escort flexes her vocal and stylistic range over the course of the 14 solo tracks, but if the singer could highlight just one song, she says it’d be “Emeralds,” the literal crown jewel of the album.
“It combines slap bass, raw but layered production, it’s funky, sexy, it has a message, and I use both strong and soft sides of my vocals,” she tells Vanyaland.
Adeline polishes “Emeralds” and the rest of her sparkling new catalogue this Thursday (February 21) at the Middle East Upstairs. Peer through her kaleidoscopic effort below as a preview.
