Peter Murphy is currently on tour celebrating 40 years of Bauhaus. But for one night next month in San Francisco, he’ll be celebrating more than 50 years of David Bowie.
Murphy today (February 5) announced a very special “A Tribute to David Bowie” performance set for March 26 at The Chapel in San Francisco. The date caps off a 16-show residency at the West Coast venue, and tickets go on sale today at 2 p.m. Pacific time.
The show is being billed as “a gesture of respect from one consummate showman to another,” and Murphy will perform songs specifically selected from Bowie’s massive catalog. “Now that all and sundry have fallen off the David Bowie tribute band wagon,” Murphy says, “I thought I’d do my own.”
Of course, Bauhaus famously covered Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” in 1982.
The San Francisco residency finds Murphy performing his solo albums on designated nights as well as three shows of Bauhaus material. Before it arrives, Murphy is on tour with Bauhaus bassist David J for “The Ruby Tour: 40 Years of Bauhaus”, where the duo perform the goth pioneers’ 1980 debut album In the Flat Field as well as other Murphy material. That comes to the Worcester Palladium on February 15 and is presented by indie617.
