Boston Music Awards unveils its full list of 2018 nominees

The 2018 Boston Music Awards nomination ballot is out -- and it's a doozy.

Spanning 36 categories and listing 10 nominees for each, this is easily the largest Boston Music Awards ballot in the franchise's 31-year history (and fourth under the ownership of Redefined's Paul Armstrong, who is also the publisher and co-founder of this website). The nominees are determined by ballots cast by the roughly 400 members of the BMA nominating committee, and now the bands, artists, and creatives who were selected by the "nom com" get their work put up for a public vote to determine the winner.

Voting closes on November 4, and those winners will be announced when the Boston Music Awards return to the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street on December 12.

Get your party dress ready.

In terms of the ballot itself, there's a lot going on. Clairo, Cousin Stizz, Joyner Lucas, Latrell James, Michael Christmas, Millyz, Ripe, STL GLD, The Ballroom Thieves, and Weakened Friends are all up for Artist of the Year. On the Vanyaland front, photographers Ben Stas, Cara DiFabio, and Emily Gardner are up for Live Music Photographer of the Year; editor and co-founder Michael Marotta, assistant news editor Victoria Wasylak, and Candace McDuffie are nominated for Music Journalist of the Year (a new category for 2018), and our website is nominated for Music Publication of the Year -- a category updated from "Music Blog of the Year," which Vanyaland has won via public vote four of the past five years.

As we mentioned, there's a lot to digest. Scan through the entire ballot below, and join the BMA's tonight at the nomination party at Hojoko in the Fenway.
