Studio 52 Spotlight: The Hideout
What Studio 52 Says: South Shore punk band The Hideout have been racing along for close to a decade. Their previously released LP There’s Nothing. I’m Closing My Eyes. in November 2016 is just a single sample of their occupation in the oft-overlooked South Shore Boston punk scene. The album is a melodic punk wonderland, reminding me of growing up in the area and the punk/hardcore shows at VFW halls and teen centers I used to frequent. What sets them apart from all those bands in my past is their persistence in keeping their sound fresh and continuing to be as relatable now in my 30s as it was when I was younger. The Hideout hit a sweet spot in the genre, injecting up-tempo verses and sing-a-long choruses into their aggressive and brisk instrument work. The Hideout and friends Oh The Humanity! released a split EP last month (August 3) — the latter half of the split belongs to The Hideout and it proves they only get finer and more polished with each release. The two bands are celebrating the release with a pair of shows this weekend starting tonight (September 14) at UnchARTed in Lowell with The Only Things, Table Trash, and Super Beef. Tomorrow night (September 15) they head into town to play O’Brien’s Pub in Allston with In The Meantime and DNZL. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
