‘Suspiria’ Trailer 2: Fall’s most exciting remake gets a great preview

Suspiria

Look, we’ve never been shy about professing our love for Italian auteur Luca Gudagnino around these parts — remember, Call Me by Your Name was our favorite movie released last year — but it’s going to get to an annoying fever pitch in the coming weeks as we get closer to the release of his new film, Suspiria, a remake of the classic Dario Argento horror film. Amazon Studios dropped a new trailer for the film today, and holy shit, somehow we’re even more hyped than when we first started freaking out about this project. Get your tights and ballet shoes ready, people: It’s time to get creeped out.

Wow, we are so fucking ready for this movie. Argento’s original has long been one of our very favorite films and, color palettes be damned, we’re excited to see what Guadagnino has cooked up with his incredible cast and crew (and composer Thom Yorke on score duties). We think it’s good, actually, that Guadagnino isn’t trying to compete with Argento on territory that the old master has so clearly marked — namely, the color-rich visuals that make the first film so alluring — and we think there’s more than enough here visually to be excited about.

Here’s a synopsis:

“A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.”

Suspiria hits theaters on November 2, though if you live in New York and LA, you’ll get to see it before Halloween (the holiday, not the long-awaited sequel) on October 26. It’ll be making its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this month (and will be missing TIFF, which makes us cry), so expect the first reactions to hit the web sooner rather than later.
