Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.
It feels like a million years since IAN SWEET played our SXSW party (it was 2016, it was a full band then, and the “SWEET” has yet to be tacked onto the moniker), but it doesn’t take long for the musical mood of Jilian Medford to transport us back to better days. A one-time Bostonian, Medford’s project — now LA-based and once again a solo effort — returns today with news of a new album, titled Crush Crusher, and it’s due October 26 via Hardly Art.
A few days later, on November 3, IAN SWEET plays Sonia in Cambridge with Young Jesus and Sean Henry, as part of a full-on North American tour. To get us all worked up, IAN SWEET has released the lead single from the LP, a noisy ode to taking care of one’s self and identifying personal limitations called “Hiding.” Watch the Alix Spence-directed video below.
“‘Hiding’ is a song I wrote for myself to be reminded to never get consumed with anything to the point of forgetting about my own needs,” Medford says in a press release. “This song is a projection of a sanctuary in which I feel safe and strong in my own desires. It is something I long for, to be confident in the things that make me, me. The song opens with convincing myself that it is ok to hide/shy away from situations when really I should never have to convince myself of anything other than what, just… feels good. This is my admittance to losing and forgetting something to someone else, but demanding to take it back.”
That’s solid advice no matter how you roll.
