Echo & the Bunnymen ‘transform’ their hits, plot fall U.S. tour

Today there were a bunch of tour announcements released, but it was a Facebook event page that caught our attention.

It was for a rogue Echo & The Bunnymen show in Boston, going down November 20 at The Orpheum Theatre, a seemingly stand-alone appearance not backed up by any other dates on the Liverpool band’s Facebook page or website, bunnymen.com.

One-offs in Boston are not exactly common, so we figured a larger tour announcement was coming eventually, and it seems Brooklyn Vegan has the scoop — Echo & The Bunnymen are playing 10 North American dates this fall, all to celebrate new concept album The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon.

The new record, out October 5, takes classic Bunnymen tracks and “transforms” them using “strings and things attached.” The first offering from this album, in the shape of “Seven Seas,” can be heard below. “I’m not doing this for anyone else,” frontman Ian McCulloch says, via BV. “I’m doing it as it’s important to me to make the songs better.”

Included on The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon’s 15 tracks are “transformations” of songs like “Bring On The Dancing Horses,” “Lips Like Sugar,” “The Cutter,” and naturally, “The Killing Moon.” In fact, “The Killing Moon” closes out the album, so it’s probably a pretty theatrical rendition. The LP will also feature two new songs.

Tickets to the Boston show go on sale Friday (August 17) at 10 a.m. Set your Bunnywatch.
