What Studio 52 Says: Boston Music Award-winning artist Ruby Rose Fox is perhaps the most theatrical active musician in New England, continually finding new ways to expand her style. Brandishing a seemingly boundless vocal range and the ability to express more in-your-face emotion on record than most musicians can muster up live on stage, Ruby Rose Fox is a true gem of this generation. In 2011, a decade after cracking the surface of Boston’s music scene by fronting the ska band Mass Hysteria, she broke free of the ball and chain that are band mates and embarked on a solo career. Earlier this year she released her sophomore album Salt, an emotionally charged dynamic thrill ride that’s chock full of larger than life aspects reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s masterpiece The Wall. It’s no surprise she has turned Salt into a one-woman interpretive art piece that she’ll be performing this Thursday night (August 16) in the planetarium at the Museum of Science. A true paragon of everything performance art has to offer, this live experience is unlike any other local act; combining an entire albums worth of original music paired with Ruby Rose’s glamorous on stage interpretation of each song. Throughout the performance she touches on race, religion, gender, politics, video games, and everything in between, aiding the creation of a show that’s much more than just people playing instruments — it’s a lively, outspoken, one-of-a-kind night of theater that’s so colossal it periodically overflows from the stage and carries on immersed in the crowd.
