Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

Look, we realize this soupy-ass weather is making us wish summer was over and we could swan dive into the breezy amber majesty of autumn. But we’re not entirely done with the most casual season just yet.

Lysten Boston has announced a rad free show going down August 17, and not only is the homegrown line-up all kinds of solid, but it’s also hosted in a rather unique space. So unique that a) there’s never been live show there before, and b) the space didn’t even exist a few years ago.

The show is dubbed Underground Sounds it features rising locals Oompa, The Maxims, Ed Balloon, and Aubrey Haddard, and it goes down at Underground at Ink Block under Interstate 93. The community space, located between the South End and Southie and near where the old Herald building once stood, has been utilized for art murals, picnic tables, walkways and other things. But now music will fill the air — at least for one Friday summer night.

“I discovered Underground at Ink Block a couple of months ago, while taking a walk around town,” says Alyssa Spector of Lysten Boston. “I was inspired by the unique combination of brightly-colored murals, the concrete structures supporting I-93, and the open spaces. Given that I’m constantly looking for new and non-traditional places to bring live music to, I immediately contacted Underground Ink Block and proposed the idea of curating and hosting a show there. Live music was not something they had yet explored, so we are both very excited about this partnership on Underground Sounds.”

Spector says the lineup came together easily, and reflects what’s going on in the city.

“I felt that a diverse bill of artists was important for the very first music event in this public community space,” she tells Vanyaland. “Since the Boston music scene itself is so diverse, I wanted to showcase a strong representation of what our community is comprised of. I hope that by hosting this free, all ages, public (even pets are allowed!) event at Underground Ink Block, it will encourage more people to attend local shows and support local artists.”
