Everyone pretty much agrees this summer will be a good one. Come August 18, the season’s status will be elevated from “good” to “Wicked Good.”
That’s when Emerson College’s public radio station WERS 88.9 FM rolls out its first-ever Wicked Good Festival, a free and all-ages celebration of arts and music at Boston Common. And Vanyaland is proud to be the fest’s official digital media sponsor — which means that starting today we’ll have news, updates, profiles, and everything else you need to know leading up to the party.
The inaugural Wicked Good Festival is headlined by Bleachers, the heralded indie-pop project led by songwriting genius Jack Antonoff (who has come a long way since his days playing the Lansdowne Pub with Fun.). From there, Wicked Good Festival goes heavy on homegrown sounds, as the initial lineup also features alt-rock legends Buffalo Tom and Juliana Hatfield, as well as Boston pop chameleons Air Traffic Controller.
UPDATE: Anjimile, the winner of 90.9 WBUR’s “Wicked Good Boston Favorite” contest, and JahRiffe & Jah-N-I Roots Movement have been added to the fest.
“All of us here at the station are looking forward to bringing our passion for music out of the studio and onto the Boston Common,” says WERS general manager Jack Casey. “We expect that the festival will be a great day for families, friends, and music lovers from all over the region to come together and enjoy a world-class event. Best part, we’re going to be able to do this completely free to the public.”
In the meantime, today we’ll turn the spotlight on the performing artists — but keep it locked here as we pass along updates and other news from now until August 18. Share your own vibes on Twitter and Instagram by tagging #WickedGood.
