It’s easy to get lost in the pull of “Zero Day,” the glacial new track from NOTHING. The Philly band offer up the noise-‘gaze track as the lead offering of new LP Dance On The Blacktop, which hits streets both paved and fantasized August 24 via Relapse Records. The record explores lyricist/guitarist/vocalist Domenic Palermo’s diagnosis with early-stage CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), and “Zero Day” carries the weight. “‘Zero Day’ refers to the amount of difficulty a person faces when attempting to close the door on all sense, meaning, or value when thinking on our existence is hard to put in words, but to me it has always been the latter,” Palermo says. “I’ve laid awake countless nights contemplating human life, its hostile uselessness, and why I’m one of the few who choose to see it that way yet manage to move onward. So I suppose in that sense ‘Zero Day’ is a song of paradoxical enlightenment.” Get lost in sound as well as the Kevin Haus-directed video below, and scan NOTHING’s fall tour itinerary that closes October 7 at The Sinclair in Cambridge.
