Studio 52 Spotlight: SEA
What Studio 52 Says: With a self-titled EP from 2015 and a couple of follow-up splits in their repertoire, Boston sludge metal mammoth SEA look ahead to finish writing their debut full-length and hitting the recording studio this summer. We’ve been yearning for any news of a new record since their April split with KYOTY premiered their eight minute mega-jam “Breathe.” If the full-length pulls all of the gloom and grit from the aforementioned track, we could not be more thrilled. The operatical monuments they’ve put out on their split EPs shows the talent and merit each member has for the genre of metal. Every one of their songs is staggering; the roaring rhythm section of bassist/vocalist Stephen LoVerme and drummer Andrew Muro paves the way for the blistering guitar work of Liz Walshak and Mike Blasi. The thunderous vocals are sparse but poignant — they bring a sense of haunting dread that amplifies the imposing nuance of the music. Do yourself a favor and get down to ONCE Somerville tonight (Friday, May 25) to witness another ripper from SEA. They’re joined on this Grayskull Booking bill by former featured band Wormwood and the outstanding Khemmis. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
