‘Downrange’ Trailer: Shudder gets Ryuhei Kitamura’s brilliant thriller

The initial situation in Ryuhei Kitamura’s Downrange is a pretty typical one: You, a college student, hook up with a couple of strangers traveling roughly in the same direction that you are and share a ride. You might have some car trouble — who wouldn’t on those rough California roads — and let’s say you blow a tire. Quick fix, especially when you’ve got a spare in the trunk. What isn’t typical is that, when you’re changing the tire, you and a buddy find something that kind of looks like a nail. It couldn’t be a nail, though, it’s too big. It’s right around the time that your pal’s head explodes in a shower of blood and brain matter that you realize that that little thing is a shell casing, and that you and your other passengers are being taunted by a sniper, hidden somewhere across the road, whom you will have to outsmart in order to survive.

If you’re like us, that premise is making you eager to see Downrange right the fuck now, and in our case, we can’t wait to see it again, having caught it at TIFF last year.

Well, you won’t have to wait very long, as it’s about to hit Shudder, the horror streaming service, next week, and as such, they dropped a trailer (on Bloody-Disgusting of all sites) for it on this Friday afternoon to make your wait even harder. They can’t show you half the shit that makes this movie worth your while, so apologies if this seems a little sparse.

Take a look:

It’s some seriously intense shit, this movie, and you need to check it out as soon as it drops. We’d also recommend getting a Shudder subscription, even if they didn’t have this movie, to all of the horror nerds out there in film land. It’s only $5 a month, and you get a pretty extensive and crazy catalogue of titles (including Kuso!).

Downrange hits Shudder on April 26. Get your barf bags ready.
