Billie Eilish continues to mesmerize. Whether we are gazing up at her at Sonia in Cambridge, or down from the balcony at The Paradise in Boston, the 16-year-old alt-pop ruler has a way of keeping attention focused squarely on her.
But even when she shares the spotlight, Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell does so in grand fashion. This week she teams up with R&B riser Khalid on “Lovely,” a relatively simple orchestral approach that assumes a much larger space once through the ears and inside the brain. Hear it in all its melancholic strain below.
Eilish’s collab arrives just as she’s about to drop a cover of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” for Record Store Day and set off for the summer festival circuit, playing Chicago’s Lollapalooza, Governors Ball in New York City, Mo Pop in Detroit, and Montreal’s Osheaga. Not to be outdone, Khalid will be back in our town for a Sunday night appearance (May 27) at Boston Calling Music Festival. There’s a lot of “Lovely” going around.
