Studio 52 Spotlight: Wormwood
What Studio 52 Says: Comprised of members of Doomriders, Phantom Glue and The Red Chord, Wormwood can definitely be considered a Boston metal heavyweight. Following up their 2014 inaugural EP, Wormwood released debut LP Mooncurse last October. The husky seven-track album is a display of hypnotic sludge that provides a creeping sense of existentialism through its extended instrumental breaks and erratic pulse. The gradual build-up in such songs as “Forlon” culminates in an explosion of thunderous drum blasts behind crushing bass lines and behemoth guitar work that leave listeners enthralled and out of breath. Their live shows are an essential piece of the band’s framework, so don’t miss them this Monday (April 2) at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston with Withered, Wake, and 1476. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
