Tragic news to pass along as Cave In vocalist/bassist Caleb Scofield was killed in a truck accident yesterday (March 28) at a New Hampshire toll booth. Scofield, at far left in the photo above, was 39.
According to the Union Leader, the accident happened at the F.E. Everett Turnpik toll plaza just after 1 p.m. The Bow resident, who also played in Zozobra and Old Man Gloom, died instantly as his vehicle, believed to be a silver truck, crashed into the Bedford toll plaza and burst into flames.
“It appears the subject was trying to change lanes right before they entered the toll plaza and didn’t make the lane quite clear and crashed into the barrier,” New Hampshire State Police Sgt. Bryan Trask told the newspaper. The Union Leader has more details about the crash.
As news of Scofield’s death spread on social media, a YouCaring page was quickly established to help the musician’s family. Scofield leaves behind a wife, Jen, and two small children, aged 10 and 7.
“Support of friends and family will help with the funeral expenses,” writes Sadie Bliss, who organized the page. “In addition to being an amazing dad and partner Caleb was an accomplished musician with a career spanning two decades. His bands Cave In and Old Man Gloom brought together many wonderful musicians, friends, fans and community. His loss will be felt felt far and wide, most deeply by his wife and children.”
