Middle Kids own up to a ‘Mistake’, announce summer tour to make up for it

While we don’t have any real complaints over Boston Calling Music Festival’s 2018 lineup, we were ever-so-slightly bummed to not see Middle Kids on the bill. The Australian trio, who broke out in 2017 with the unfuckwithable single “Edge of Town,” are set to play Governors Ball in June, so we figured Hannah Joy and the dudes were going to pull the ol’ cross-country festival circuit.

The Boston festival date never materialized, but they have not forgotten about us. As Middle Kids prep their debut full-length album, titled Lost Friends and out May 4 on Domino, they’ll embark on a Stateside tour that hits both fests and more intimate clubs.

Boston gets the latter, as Middle Kids play Allston’s Brighton Music Hall on June 5.

As for Lost Friends, Joy says the record is about hope.

“In a time where a lot of division is growing, we want to be part of the conversation that unites people around certain ideals that are universal, like hope and love,” she says in a press release. “That’s so much a thread throughout this album: Even though things are tough, it’s worth believing in something good and in the idea that we can heal. And in some ways, I wanted the music to be beautiful and a respite from what’s going on.”

We all need that, whether at a fest or in a rock club. Listen to the first offering from the new LP, “Mistake,” below, and find out when Middle Kids come to your own edge of town.
