alt-J announce ‘immersive sound show’ in NYC, augmented by ‘hyperrealism’ technology

alt-J are tired of those typical rock shows. So they are taking a new approach… to sound.

The Leeds trio this morning announced they will be playing Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, on June 15, but it won’t be just any ol’ show. The gig will be an “immersive sound show,” where the venue’s sound will be augmented by use of immersive hyperrealism technology.

So what the hell does that mean?

It means that “the show will feature a surround speaker system enveloping the entire audience,” according to the announcement. “The speakers will be used throughout the show to position sound effects mixed into a variety of the band’s material, thus creating an immersive sound experience. The band has recently won the prestigious ‘Knights Of Illumination’ award for lighting production in an arena, which will also be featured at this show. For this special event, the entire venue will be general admission, including floor and bowl, so that fans can enjoy the show from every angle.”

Here’s a look:

Tickets are available starting with tomorrow’s (January 30) pre-sale via AXS.com.

As if all this immersive sound stuff wasn’t enough to capture your interest, Kamasi Washington will be the opening act on this show. And he sounds awesome regardless of whatever technology is being utilized.

alt-J released their third and latest album, Relaxer, last summer. Listen to it below on your wack-ass laptop speakers.
