Studio 52 Spotlight: The Ballroom Thieves
What Studio 52 Says: The Ballroom Thieves exhibit the folksier part of the Boston music scene, a genre here that has seen numerous proficient acts flourish over the past few years. However, the Thieves are one of the premier folk groups of our city; even taking home Folk Artist of the Year at last month’s Boston Music Awards. Their brilliant compositions and harmonies astound the senses and their usage of string instruments are unparalleled. The trio released their politically-charged single “Do Something” this week, taking aim at the current administration in their signature style. The track is just one of the singles they’ve released past the introduction of their full-length Deadeye in 2016 — the last being “Only Lonely” late last year. Saturday night (January 20), The Ballroom Thieves extend the reach of the Newport Folk Festival by playing at the Old South Meeting House in downtown Boston after hosting a “Freedom Crawl” tonight. Hopefully you were quick to grab tickets to the Old South Meeting House gig, because the sold-out show should be a great way to kick off the new year. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
