With the 2017 Boston Music Awards arriving Thursday night at The House of Blues, there's a lot to take in: 36 award categories, dozens and dozens of nominees, and more public votes cast than the 2016 presidential election (we're just assuming on that last one). But as everyone this week shares their Spotify "2017 Wrapped" year-end recaps, detailing which songs they've listened to the most over the past year, we got to wondering, specifically, about the BMAs' Song of the Year category.
One of the BMAs' premier awards, the Song of the Year ballot widened to 10 entries up for this year's honor. And like most categories, it's virtually impossible to predict, featuring a wide array of diverse artists making waves here in Boston and on a national level.
For a quick primer on the nominees, scan through our Song of the Year preview below, listed alphabetically, and in order of appearance on the BMAs ballot. In case you're wondering, PVRIS took home last year's Song of the Year trophy for "You & I," and the Lowell pop-rock group are once again included on this year's ballot.
