Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

A few years ago the Boston Music Awards created a new award category honoring our city's Music Photographer of the Year. Today, in advance of Thursday's ceremony and party at The House of Blues, the award has been re-named The Eddy Leiva Music Photographer of the Year Award.

Leiva, a respected Vanyaland photographer, passed away suddenly on November 13 at the age of 35.

"Eddy’s love and passion for photography and music were clear for so many to see," writes the BMAs. "His incredible work earned him a Boston Music Award nomination for this year’s photography award. With the permission and blessing of the Leiva family, the Boston Music Awards have renamed the Music Photographer of the Year Award in his honor."

The inaugural winner of The Eddy Leiva Music Photographer of the Year award will be announced live this Thursday at the BMAs. Leiva is nominated in the category, alongside Ben Stas, Cara DiFabio, Greg Gaffney, Jen Vesp, Jonathan Beckley, Matthew Shelter, Natasha Moustache, Richard Knowles, and Tim Bugbee.

A final expense fund has been set up by the Leiva family, and donations can be made here. Below are some of our favorite images Eddy shot for Vanyaland, re-posted from our memorial gallery.
