Editor’s Note: There was a great line in Stereogum a few weeks back that playfully speculated Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile cut a record together just so they’d have an excuse to hang out. The result of that hang sesh was Lotta Sea Lice, a collaborative record that found two of our generation’s more skilled songwriters and guitarists playing off each others’ strengths. On Saturday night (November 4), Barnett and Vile brought those vibes to The Orpheum Theatre in Boston, playing a few select cuts off the record and diving into their own cherished catalogs. Scott Murry was downtown on behalf of Vanyaland, capturing the Barnett and Vile with their band The Sea Lice, and a few shots of impressive opener Jen Cloher, an Australian singer-sngwriter whose raspy voice and booming acoustic performance earned more than a few new fans.
