Like we do every morning, we woke up a few hours ago with a list of items to publish on Vanyaland -- the usual mix of live reviews, photo galleries, film reviews, and new songs/videos from bands and artists playing live shows this week. Like everyone around the world, we are horrified to wake up to news of the deadly mass shooting last night in Las Vegas, and the loss of 50 innocent lives of those attending a music festival is something that weighs on us heavily. We don't know what to do. We don't know what to say. We don't even know what to think anymore. And no, we're not taking these feelings to Twitter.
On our suddenly meaningless list of things to publish this morning were three new videos from Boston psych-rock project DYR FASER, who are playing ONCE Lounge in Somerville tonight.
So we'll post them, viewable below, without our usual commentary and narrative, but with the belief and understanding that the healing power of live music is something essential to us all. It wasn't taken away when Dimebag Darrell was murdered, it wasn't taken away during the tragedy at Le Bataclan, and it won't be taken away last night in Las Vegas.
Check out the videos, watch them, hear them, and feel a momentary sense of escape. If you're so inclined, head over to Highland Avenue this evening and watch them play these songs live. DYR FASER are also at O'Brien's Pub in Allston on October 11.
If it's not your thing, find salvation in live music elsewhere: METZ are at The Sinclair with Uniform and Gymshorts; Wilsen is at The Red Room at Cafe 939; Conner Youngblood plays Great Scott; Pinback are at Brighton Music Hall; Ozlo play ZuZu; and Matthew Stubbs & The Antiguas deliver their "Downbeat Mondays" residency at The Sinclair's restaurant. Websites like Crossroads Presents' homepage, Bowery Boston's "See All Shows" page, and the Middle East's homepage are helpful in providing calendars for what's going on, each and every night around Boston.
Peep the DYR FASER videos below, all released in the last month, and scan through clips of others who are taking the stage around town this evening. The week ahead gets even better -- Alvvays at the Paradise, Yelle at Great Scott, Ted Leo at the Dr Martens store, Halsey and Charli XCX at TD Garden, Paul Weller at House of Blues, and on and on -- but right now, we'll take it one day at a time.
