RIP: Soul and funk singer Charles Bradley has died at the age of 68

Less than a month after canceling the remainder of his tour due to the return of cancer, singer Charles Bradley, the “Screaming Eagle of Soul,” has died. He was 68.

The news was announced Saturday (September 23) on his Facebook page.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Charles Bradley,” the message states. “Mr. Bradley was truly grateful for all the love he’s received from his fans and we hope his message of love is remembered and carried on. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Included in the note are two organizations where donations may be made in his name, the All-Stars Project and Music Unites.

Bradley was diagnosed with stomach cancer last fall, and had returned to the stage earlier this year. After feeling run down after performances, the performer recently learned the cancer has spread to his liver, though not his stomach. “I love all of you out there that made my dreams come true,” Bradley said in a statement on September 6. “When I come back, I’ll come back strong, with God’s love. With God’s will, I’ll be back soon.”

Bradley released his latest album, Changes, in 2016. That same year, he performed at Boston Calling Music Festival at City Hall Plaza. See images from that performance below., including the featured image up top, by Eddy Leiva for Vanyaland.
