Look, we’re still pretty hung up on Charly Bliss‘ guitar-rock banger “Glitter,” a notable nod to ’90s alt-rock that should get stuck in all the corners and creases of our Best of 2017 lists.
But we have to move on, as life waits for no man or woman, and this week the New York quartet have dropped a new video for “DQ”, yet another standout jam from April’s breakout Barsuk Records LP Guppy. The whole thing feels like lost outtakes and scenes from that one teen movie everyone loved back in the day.
“I think we often naturally veer towards that kind of campy, fun feeling for our music and videos,” Charly Bliss’ Eva Hendricks tells Noisey, which premiered the clip. “I wanted the video to match the energy of ‘DQ’, but also sort of correspond with that idea of being too old and too young at the same time. We shot the video in our hometown in Westport, Connecticut mostly at our parents’ houses. I wanted us to seem like weird overgrown townies! The video is a pretty literal interpretation of the lyrics, and therefore, a great excuse to get to hang out with a lot of cows.”
Sign us up. Charly Bliss have played out town a few times so far in 2017, and return with Wolf Parade for an October 20 gig at Royale. After you watch the video, scan through the band’s full run of shows, which includes appearances with Death Cab for Cutie, Sad13, and Chastity Belt
