The end of summer can only mean one thing -- Starlabfest is on the horizon.
By now, you know the deal, and you don't need us to sell you on one of the most fun afternoons under the September sun. Starlabfest is annually one of the most consistent mini-fests in all of Bostonland, and this year, the franchise's eighth, features another grand daddy doozy of a lineup.
On tap to perform live at the September 9 all-day (respectful) rager at the Somerville Arts Council's outdoor ARTFarm space are Paul Collins with The Dazies backing him up, Lyres, Black Beach, Laika's Orbit, Me In Capris, JoJo & The Angry Girls, Bundles, Boston Cream, Jeff Rowe, and Baby!, who everyone pretty much agrees is the next great big thing to make us all feel young and alive again (for serious just listen to "Weather Girl" off her upcoming Sunny F.L. album, which hits August 25; also that's her in the pic).
Before we get to the previews, here's word from Starlab Studios, the all-around-awesome curators of the fest that bears the name: "Now in our eighth year, we will carry on the annual tradition of throwing an end of the summer party celebrating local music, comedy, visual art and vendors! As always, there will be plenty of beer, wine and cider, as well as free BBQ (including vegan/veggie options) from our friends at Scott Bros New American Meat Co.! Also, on site will be a flea market curated by High Energy Vintage, local vendors, raffles and games! Keep an eye on this page for updates on vendors and raffle prizes!"
Hot damn.
Doors open at noon, and music begins at 1:30 p.m. There's a sliding scale ticket price ("pay what you like/feel comfortable with! says the 'Lab), and advance tickets will be sold through Brown Paper Tickets. It's an all-ages affair, and your pups are welcome to come hang.
