RIP: Afghan Whigs guitarist Dave Rosser has died after a battle with cancer

Sad news to pass along this morning, as Afghan Whigs guitarist Dave Rosser has died.

Rosser, who also played with Twilight Singers, Mark Lanegan, Marc Broussard, and others, was diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer last October. A GoFundMe launched around the time of his diagnosis generated more than $65,000, and a series of benefit shows were organized by Greg Dulli in December.

The news was confirmed by musician, producer, and Rosser collaborator Rick G. Nelson on Facebook, as well as the My Jerusalem band page.

“Every once in a while a human being comes along that transcends everything: life, art, friendship, wit, music and love,” wrote GoFundMe creator Keith Hagan last fall. “They are among the true ‘one of a kinds.’ Dave Rosser belongs to that category. A New Orleanian for nearly 25 years, he is widely considered to be a true virtuoso guitar player by some of the most influential artists in the industry. …[H]e is also one of sweetest human beings on the planet. His sense of humor and generosity rival his musical prowess.”
