Move over Mac Sabbath. There’s a new force to be reckoned with when it comes to novelty rock bands.
No doubt capitalizing on the Star Wars mania that has gripped the world as we count down to December’s Last Jedi, the riff-tastic Galactic Empire are a metal band straight out of the dark side, and now they are set to embark on a 22-date North American tour that hits the Middle East in Cambridge on August 5. Update: Show has been moved next door to Sonia.
“Loyal Citizens of the Galactic Empire,” the band writes, “in our continuing efforts to eradicate the rebellion we are embarking on a US tour with our allies in dangerkids. Garrisons will be set up in each city to ensure no rebel scum undermine our plans.”
As one can imagine, this whole thing is pretty ridiculous: Darth Vader fronts the band (obviously), Boba Fett plays drums (drummers are the true mercenaries of the music scene), one of the Emperor’s Royal Guards joins in on guitar, and well, they found a stormtrooper to play bass. Who knows how many stormtrooper bassists Galactic Empire has already gone through? Probably a lot.
But these evil bastards aren’t simply riding off the dewback’s of Star Wars interest — the shit is actually pretty cool. As The PRP notes, Galactic Empire rounded up more than $61,000 via Kickstarter for their tour and album, which is a whole lot of Republic credits.
