Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

Boston Calling Music Festival returns this weekend (May 26, 27, 28), and there's a lot going on. The three-day music and arts festival boasts its most impressive performer lineup in its four-year history, with an expanded food and drink offering all stretched out over a new location at the Harvard Athletic Complex. After seven fests at City Hall plaza in downtown Boston, the party shifts to the open acreage of Lower Allston, upgrading its overall layout from a condensed six acres surrounded by buildings to about 17 acres along the Charles River. We've been covering the news of this expanded and enhanced Boston Calling since organizers held meetings with Allston officials last fall, so here's a quick recap and rundown of where we stand today at the Boston Calling gates set to swing open this afternoon. Who are the locals?

This year, perhaps more than any other, offers up a very impressive slate of bands and artists with local ties. On the comedy front, homegrown talents like Eugene Mirman, Kelly MacFarland, Nick Chambers, Bethany Van Delft, and Lamont Price reflect the our blossoming Boston scene, and gives the “comedy experience” true sense of localism. And the music is a mix of new and tested across several genres.

When Converge (Sunday 3:10 p.m.) replaced Modern Baseball on the lineup a few months back, Boston Calling rounded out a killer Massachusetts representation: Joining the North Shore metalcore dudes are Dorchester hip-hop phenom Cousin Stizz (Saturday 3:15 p.m.), rock and roll heroes Piebald (Sunday 4:55 p.m.), guitar-rock wunderkind Vundabar (Friday 2:55 p.m.), Worcester pop-punk band The Hotelier (Sunday 1 p.m., and celebrated alt-rock trio Buffalo Tom (Sunday 3:05 p.m.).

Get caught up with the playlist below. And see you at Boston Calling.
