The most unexpected and fascinating names to appear on the new season of ‘Twin Peaks’

Yesterday, we brought you a list of musicians that we were excited to see on screen in the new season of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks, which premieres on Showtime this Sunday (May 21) at 9 p.m..

We thought it only fitting to return back to the same 217-person cast list that we pulled that list from, and find the most unexpected and fascinating names on that list from all other walks of life -- actors, athletes, stuntmen -- and use that as a way to preview how different and unexpected this new season might be.

Unexpected, yes -- just like David Lynch doing the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Derek Mears

You’re probably wondering who the hell Derek Mears is and what the hell he’s doing in Twin Peaks, and we agree with you on the second point. On the first, if you really don’t know, we highly recommend you go out and rent the Platinum Dunes reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise and be absolutely stunned at how this didn’t jumpstart a new era for the long-lasting horror series. Mears played Jason Voorhees in that movie — he’s tall, built and intimidating as hell — and has also done stunt work in a variety of movies over the years. He was also the Kickpuncher in Community, if you’re a nerd like us, but in honor of the Friday the 13th video game hitting shelves in a few short weeks, we went with a trailer for his work in that.
