Freshly Squeezed: The music-minded cast of ‘Twin Peaks’ to amplify the show’s return

Right around this time last year, the cast list for the new season of Twin Peaks dropped, and there were a shitload of surprising names on it, like Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, and Tim Roth. Plenty more will be making an appearance on the show, but what truly surprised us were the number of musicians on the cast list, and how odd and eclectic they were.

With Twin Peaks back in our lives this weekend, premiering Sunday (May 21) at 9 p.m. eastern on Showtime, we took a glimpse at the some of the cast and some tracks that we think you might enjoy if you’re in the mood for some Lynchian goodness.

Pro-tip, though: You might not want to watch this on your phone, lest you piss David Lynch himself off.

Sky Ferreira

Our bae-4-lyfe Sky Ferreira opened up recently to Vanity Fair about her Twin Peaks character recently, and revealed that she’s not going to be simply portraying a Julee Cruise analogue, which is great. Ferreira is no stranger to working with amazing filmmakers — Enter the Void director Gaspar Noe shot the NSFW cover for her first record, Night Time, My Time (the title being a Twin Peaks reference in and of itself) and she has a big, big role in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver — and it’s cool to see her working with someone she very obviously respects. Speaking of which, though, she’s certainly got the pipes and the tone to do so, as she’s heard here covering Cruise’s “Falling,” which you might recognize if you’re reading this article.
