‘The Last Jedi’: A shot-by-shot breakdown of this fascinating new ‘Star Wars’ galaxy

So you’ve seen the pants-wettingly good new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and you’re probably wondering what all of it means. Well, luckily for you, we spent plenty of time reading Star Wars tie-in novels and visual guides (and also getting plenty of wedgies) in our youth and are here to break it down for you.

Here’s a slideshow of all of the important stuff we’ve gleaned from a scant two minutes of footage, and there’s a lot of it! Jump down to the bottom to revisit the teaser trailer and its very-cool poster.

A bunch of fascinating new landspeeders jet across a salt flat on a planet called Crait, headed toward the First Order equivalent of what look like Imperial Walkers. It’s probably the trailer’s most interesting shot from a nerd perspective. The flare-like smoke trail that they give off is absolutely awesome, and it’s also evocative of a shot from the first The Force Awakens teaser, the one of the X-Wings screaming across the water on Takodana — they’re even going the opposite direction! We can’t wait to find out more about this whole situation; it may have something to do with whatever mission that Finn and series newbie Kelly Marie Tran (playing Rose, a Resistance technician) are tasked to go on, or it may be an entirely new battle that will anchor the entire film. (Do not click this link if you want to your eyes remain virginal when you entire the theater.)
