For our money, the best cover we’ve ever heard at Boston Calling Music Festival arrived in fall 2015, when Sturgill Simpson re-booted When In Rome’s ’80s classic “The Promise.” As the fest relocates to Allston next month, we have a new potential contender for Best Cover (not that that’s a thing or whatever) via Car Seat Headrest, who this week has offered an acoustic take on The Smiths’ 1985 Meat Is Murder classic “That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore.”
Listen to it below.
The Virginia-born, Seattle-based Car Seat Headrest plays the Friday (May 26) slate at Boston Calling, lining up on an impressive opening tilt at the Harvard Athletic Complex alongside Chance The Rapper, Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, Solange, Sylvan Esso, Mac Demarco, Vundabar, and others. That’s just the first day!
