Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

Editor's Note: There's been much talk in recent years about Boston-area rock clubs and live music venues closing. But on Friday night (March 31), the tide turned for just a moment as Sonia rocked out for the first time in Cambridge. The Central Square rock club, an extended part of the Middle East restaurant and nightclub complex and in the former site of T.T. The Bear's Place, opened with a flurry of various homegrown sounds, from the intelligent rock of Doom Lover and Aüva's dream-pop, to the garage rock racket of CreaturoS and the post-hardcore fury of Bad Boys Club. The all-ages venue (until it secures its liquor license) has a "new club" vibe to it (check out the pristine men's room), and its open floor, high ceiling, white walls, vibrant lighting, and repositioned stage give the room its very own distinction (you'd be hard-pressed to think you were standing inside the old T.T.'s). Sonia should thrive as a destination for both live music and dance parties, and it immediately feels like a welcome, and much-needed, addition to the city's music scene. Eddy Leiva was in the room for Vanyaland to document the opening-night festivities, and you can view his full gallery below.
