During last night’s broadcast of Legion on FX (check our recaps), Fox dropped The Last Supper, a five minute prologue to Ridley Scott’s summer release Alien: Covenant. We guess they want you to become better acquainted with the soon-to-be hosts to a new generation of chestbursters, and it’s a pretty fun clip.
Here it is, ICYMI:
How about that chestburster joke in the middle there?
That was probably the best part of the whole damn thing, and that’s saying something.
We love the fact that creepy Michael Fassbender gets to make jokes this time around, and that he’s perfected his Ian Holm impression. Seriously, though, what a cast! James Franco, Demian Bechir, Danny McBride, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Jussie Smollett — it’s a murderer’s row of people you’d want to be in your movie. It’s nice that Scott’s aiming for the more rustic and natural looks of the previous Alien movies, though it’s kind of sad we won’t really get to see the same visual style we got in Prometheus. That said, as long as the writing’s better, we’ll gladly take the changes in stride.
Here’s a synopsis: “Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.”
Spooky!
We’re likely to get more Alien: Covenant footage come SXSW, where the cast and crew of the new film will be doing a panel after a showing of the first (and best) movie. Regardless, you don’t have to wait much longer — Alien: Covenant bursts onto screens everywhere on May 19.
