Undefeated: The 10 greatest fist fight scenes in cinema history

This Friday, Hollywood will be giving us the answer to the question every American’s had on their mind since 2004: Who would win in a fight between Charlie Day or Ice Cube? We tried to find a betting line for the big scuffle in Fist Fight, but it looks like Vegas isn’t putting their money on this one. Mickey, our local bookie, said "42-1 Cube" and he’d eat his shoe if we won.

To make Fist Fight a lot to live up to, we decided to make a list of the greatest fight scenes in film history, obeying only one rule -- no lead actor would be represented twice. Read through our list of film fisticuffs below, but be warned: Some spoilers may follow.

The Raid

What an utter shame it is that this action movie’s bloated sequel gets all of the talk and the hype that this one should. With a plot so simple it’s almost stupid (cops, to take down a drug lord, must go up into a building and leave a trail of corpses in their wake) and very little characterization given to anybody at all, this movie lived and died on the quality of its action filmmaking. And we’re happy to tell you that this movie is the living word of the fight movie gospel, made manifest to come down to Earth and liberate you from an endless stream of bland and stuffy action movies. This three-person fight scene, featuring a cop and his brother taking on one of the drug lord’s enforcers, is one of the most intense ones on this list, and features one of the best weapons — a shard of fluorescent light. Let’s pray director Gareth Evans’s next feature, Apostle, can be just as good as this one.
