Undefeated: The 10 greatest fist fight scenes in cinema history

This Friday, Hollywood will be giving us the answer to the question every American’s had on their mind since 2004: Who would win in a fight between Charlie Day or Ice Cube? We tried to find a betting line for the big scuffle in Fist Fight, but it looks like Vegas isn’t putting their money on this one. Mickey, our local bookie, said "42-1 Cube" and he’d eat his shoe if we won.

To make Fist Fight a lot to live up to, we decided to make a list of the greatest fight scenes in film history, obeying only one rule -- no lead actor would be represented twice. Read through our list of film fisticuffs below, but be warned: Some spoilers may follow.

Oldboy

You gotta feel bad for Spike Lee when he signed up to remake this now-classic 2003 Korean thriller: He was going to have to make a fight scene that rivaled this one right here. Of course, he failed, as he missed the beautiful simplicity of the image (Lee took his fight down several levels of parking garage, which sort of missed the point here) and the incredible amount of difficult work that went into making it. This hallway fight has been imitated multiple times, and none have come close. From the badass banter at the beginning about how the gang members with AB blood types should get out of the hallway and tend to their boss, to the sheer beatdown Choi Min-sik is given over the course of this five minute scene (he gets stabbed in the fucking back!) and then the one he dishes out to these punks, this is a straight up orgy of violence, composed like a renaissance painting. Done in one take, this fight scene was done a total of 17 times over three days until Park Chan-wook got what he wanted. Everyone’s efforts were totally fucking worth it.
