‘In these trying times we need some Fun’: Blondie return with a disco-pop jolt

Blondie are back, and they have three things going for themselves — a delicious new single, a collaborator-packed new album, and an important message that will help gets us all through each day.

Says guitarist Chris Stein in a statement: “Quoting Emma Goldman, ‘If I can’t dance I don’t want to be part of your revolution.’ In these trying times we need some fun.” Frontwoman Deborah Harry agrees, adding: “We’re very serious about fun.”

So serious, in fact, that the band’s intoxicating new disco-pop single is titled just that — “Fun.” It’s the first taste of the legendary new wave group’s eleventh studio album, Pollinator, out May 5 via BMG.

TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek is featured on “Fun”, and the guest flow free from there. Pollinator was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney) and features collaborations and guest appearances by Dev Hynes, Johnny Marr, Charli XCX, Sia, Joan Jett, the Strokes’ Nick Valensi, and others. The Pollinator artwork, which you can see after the video jump, was created by Shepard Fairey.
