Episode VIII of the ‘Star Wars’ saga will be known as ‘The Last Jedi’

And now we know the name of the next Star Wars film.

Lucasfilm released the following statement moments ago, and it reveals the title we’ll be repeating a million times from now until December: The Last Jedi.

Say it again: The Last Jedi.

Here’s the official word from starwars.com:

“We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.”

Well hot damn.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is said to begin right after where Star Wars: The Force Awakens left off, with Rey finding and confronting Luke Skywalker. Though very little is known about the new film’s plot, the title suggests an enhanced role from Skywalker, who had been living in exile. Or maybe Rey is a Skywalker after all.

Good thing we have nearly a year to debate all this.

In the meantime, take a look at the new Star Wars teaser image, which features the iconic logo outlined in red, below. Make of that color what you will.
