Year In ReView: 16 of our most favorite Providence songs of 2016

This year marked one of immense growth for the Providence music scene. New faces made their presence felt and even a new venue in Alchemy opened up to become a huge part of an already burgeoning community. Veterans staked their claim and the newbies became established while a bunch of others are well on their way to making a name for themselves. For any community to thrive, there has to be a steady influx of young people getting involved. Thankfully that is happening in Providence when it comes to local music and people are welcoming it with open arms. There's a sense of artistic excitement in the Creative Capital these days; individuals who have been involved in the music community for years are getting more and more great people involved. Shows consisting of all local bands are packing venues in every neighborhood. It's inspiring to witness and there's a lot to be positive about when it comes to the bands that call this place home. With all of this being said, here are 16 of our favorite songs to come out of Providence this year.

Broken, “Need To Bleed”

Ex-Verse frontman Sean Murphy was going through a rough patch in 2015 and into 2016 before deciding to do what a talented artist does best when they’re going through pain: He conveyed what he was feeling into his craft. Murphy he started the punk act Broken with Evan White, Lizzy Callas and Dylan Alexander together they released Cortisol Blues in May. An anthem for the alienated, “Need To Bleed” is an intense song that delves into misery and suffering. It’s a safe bet that this year wasn’t great for everyone. For those looking for something to sooth that pain, this track from Murphy’s new band should be able to help.
