Leonard Cohen has died. He was 82 years old.
A message on his Facebook page reads: “It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”
The iconic figure, whose influential work spanned six decades, released his latest album, You Want It Darker, just last month. His discourses on strained and failed relationships are the compositions of legend, with everyone from Jeff Buckley to Damien Rice to Jarvis Cocker taking a stab at Cohen’s efforts to quell the emotional bloodletting.
The debonair, fedora wearing Cohen continued touring in recent years, a testament to his dedication to spreading the gospel of heartbreak far and wide, his last road weary stroll was in 2012 when he performed 120-plus shows — including two at Boston’s Wang Theatre.
