Editor’s Note: A million years ago in the carefree late-’90s, Chris Rock did a stand up comedy special for HBO, and at one point, he brought up Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca”. He raced across the stage in both directions and marveled, “That’s a catchy-ass song!” Last night at Royale in Boston, catchy-ass songs filled the room, as a trio of new bands in the world of indie rock and alt-pop filled the Theatre District nightclub in modern color and sound. From Los Angeles’ Weathers (“Happy Pills”) to Minnesota’s Hippo Campus (“Suicide Saturday”) to Los Angeles’ Saint Motel (“My Type”), Royale showcased a trio of bands who will all be headlining their own massive tours in the very near future. Vanyaland’s Eddy Leiva was in the middle of it all to capture the photos, and you can check his full gallery below, starting with the upstart Weathers.
