In advance of this weekend’s Desert Trip mega-fest in California, the Rolling Stones have announced new album Blue & Lonesome.
The rock legends’ new record is their first studio LP in more than a decade, and is out December 2 via Polydor. Blue & Lonesome features 12 tracks, including covers of songs by Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf, and was recorded over three days at British Grove Studios in west London. Eric Clapton appears on two songs.
Blue & Lonesome is heralded in the press release as a return to “their roots and the passion for blues music”. Adds co-producer Don Was, via the NME: “This album is manifest testament to the purity of their love for making music, and the blues is, for the Stones, the fountainhead of everything they do.”
