This week, Lou Barlow announced his new EP, Apocalypse Fetish. It’s a five-song collection of tunes performed on ukulele, due out October 28 via Joyful Noise Recordings, and recorded with the great Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab in Easthampton.
Of the title track, Barlow explains that the song and term “Apocalypse Fetish” are inspired by those who are seeking to bring about the end times.
“[It] proposes that, perhaps, many of us have been disappointed that the end of the world has taken too long to come after we’ve spent most of our lives predicting it,” Barlow writes. “And, perhaps, we’ve decided to take matters in our own hands and ‘bring it on’ because, if it doesn’t come soon, then didn’t we all seem foolish talking about it all. the. time.”
If that sounds like the perfect tune to create a video for, you and ol’ Lou are on the same page. Yesterday via Facebook, Barlow put out a call for fan video of American flags and other signs of patriotism displayed on citizen vehicles and elsewhere around the country.
He provides the details:
this is a call out for any video footage (from yr phone or whatever) y’all might have or could take of the fine new strain of patriots motoring around your hometown (as in this pic, flags on the back of pick ups).. also gun and ammo stores, firing ranges etc. anywhere these brave citizens exercise their endangered second amendment rights! i like ‘from a moving vehicle’ shots the best…i’m putting together a vid for my new song ‘apocalypse fetish’ and need some slice of life stuff, i’m not after Trump signs etc. this isn’t about him .. please IM me here on FB with downloadable links etc. questions answered below..thanks!! i will try to credit any contributions i use and will provide download codes to some of my music..woo!!
Have at it.
And also note that on the night after Thanksgiving, Dinosaur Jr. and Buffalo Tom play the House of Blues in Boston. Listen to the first track off Apocalypse Fetish, titled “The Breeze”, below via Soundcloud.
