It’s that time of year again — the Hometown Throwdown is right around the corner.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones this morning announced the dates for their 19th annual year-end punk rock gala at the House of Blues, and this year’s Throwdown goes down over three nights, December 28, 29, and 30.
Last year’s Throwdown theme featured a tribute to famed Kenmore Square rock club the Rat, and while it would be tempting for the ska-punk band to follow that up in 2016 with some sort of Hotel Commonwealth party for the trust fund kids in the audience, the band instead is taking a different approach.
And they want you to think globally.
“Faced with the difficult task of having to follow up last year’s very successful tribute to the historic local punk rock venue the Rat, this year we’ve decided to think internationally, go global, and celebrate the whole wide world,” says frontman Dicky Barrett. “We’ll better explain what that means in the weeks to come. In the meantime, snatch up those tickets because like every year it promises to be one of the top three Holiday events of the season.”
No arguments there. Check out the flyer below, which is certain to hold clues to this year’s theme, and stay tuned for the all-important announcement of openers and special guests. Tickets to all three shows go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster, Live Nation, and the House of Blues.
