For a band that broke up way back in 2009, it’s amazing that seven years later there is just no shortage of Oasis news. This week’s bit comes not via re-issue announcements, false reunion rumors, or frontman Liam Gallagher calling guitar-playing brother Noel a “potato”, but through a new teaser trailer for upcoming documentary Supersonic.
Directed by Mat Whitecross and executive-produced by Asif Kapadia (who directed the Oscar-winning Amy Winehouse documentary Amy), Supersonic traces Oasis’ rocket-fueled rise from Manchester clubs to the top of the British music charts, their run as rulers of Cool Britannia, and their inevitable fall in the tumultuous 2000s. It hits cinemas in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 2, and gets released on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digitally come October 31.
Supersonic has even been endorsed by Liam — though Paste notes that while each brother cooperated generously with the documentary’s filmmakers, they recorded their voiceovers separately in order to avoid each other’s company.
