There are many ways to prove that autumn is fast approaching, and many of them include something that rhymes with bumpkin’ lice. For us, it’s the return of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to our daily playlists; there’s something about the Australian composer and songwriter’s darker tones that somehow align perfectly with the season, that prepare us for the oncoming end of the year.
This month, that end has a new beginning, of sorts, as Cave releases his 16th and latest studio album with the Bad Seeds, Skeleton Tree, on September 9. It’s Cave’s first public work since his 15-year-old son Arthur died in a tragically fall in England last year, and the day before the album surfaces, a companion film from director Andrew Dominik, titled One More Time With Feeling, arrives in select movie theaters across the country.
According to the film’s homepage, One More Time With Feeling will be officially screening in seven theaters on September 8 at 9 p.m., including Showcase Chestnut Hill, Brookline’s Coolidge Corner Theatre, Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge, and CinemaSalem. Look below for the full list, and check your local listings for added showtimes (Providence’s Cable Car Cinema, for example, has extended showings through the weekend ).
Meanwhile, Cave this week has released the album’s first single, the haunting “Jesus Alone”; the video pulls footage from Dominik’s black-and-white film, giving us a teaser of what to expect from both the album and the movie.
