Caspian recreate an epic childhood game of make-believe in video for ‘Arcs of Command’

The music of Caspian is grand and sprawling, the type of compositions that slowly take shape and disassemble, that flow and jolt, and that eventually take the listener on a journey inside their own heads. It’s also the type of music that lends itself well to music videos, but, incredibly, the Beverly-based instrumental post-rock band has yet to release an official video in their decade-plus career.

Until now.

This morning, with the 12th anniversary of the band arriving this Friday, Caspian have released their first-ever music video — and it’s as intense and incredible as you’d expect. The video is for the track “Arcs of Command,” a nearly nine minute long selection from their latest album, last fall’s Dust and Disquiet, and shows young, bloodthirsty gangs running amok in the woods.

“We received a lot of great treatments, but connected with this one because it reminded us of how ‘epic’ a childhood game of make-believe could feel,” writes Caspian on Facebook. “A big thank you to the kids who spent a few cold weekends running around the woods of rural Indiana.”

Watch the video, and take note: though currently on tour in Europe, Caspian return home this fall for a 22-date North American tour with the Appleseed Cast. It hits Royale in Boston on November 18. Full dates below.
