That headline up there does not lie.
This is, in fact, a post about Beach Slang (we publish them kind of frequently), and it includes all three things teased in big text. Let’s start with the easiest bit of news: The anthemic Philly rock band has today released a new video for latest single “Punks In A Disco Bar”, and it’s the first taste of new jams off upcoming sophomore album A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings, out September 23 via Polyvinyl Records.
“A lot of the songs [on Loud Bash] are the stories of the kids who got turned on to Beach Slang by the first album,” says frontman Alex James. “They’re autobiographical, too, but kind of at a remove — I’m not that young kid anymore, but I used to be. You know how it is; rock and roll is a new crop of 15-year-olds picking up guitars every year and having at it. There was something really cool about documenting someone elses life, but seeing myself in it. I suppose that’s why we connect. We’re all kind of one big gang.”
True that. Ok, now for the trickier news.
The good part is that Beach Slang have expanded their European and North American tour, taking them pretty much everywhere in those parts of the world between now and early November.
The bad news is that the only New England date on this 49-date run is a very sold out October 6 show at Royale, where Beach Slang open for punk legends the Descendents. Now, of course that’s awesome in and of itself, but tickets went very fast, and chances are most people missed out. No doubt Descendents fans gobbled all those fuckers up pretty much immediately upon going on sale.
But hey, given the way Beach Slang treat their fans, and their impeccable relationship with venues around Boston, it’s likely they’ll be back soon, maybe around the holidays, and we can all celebrate the new record in proper terms.
Tour dates after the video.
