Editor’s Note: Whether you’re local or a touring band, Boston’s no easy place to play in the summer. Nearly all of the college students are gone for the summer, and there’s a real casual vibe in the air. Patio decks and beaches replace rock clubs as hangout spots of choice. So with that, we’re always impressed when a band rolls through town and sells out their show on the first of August. Alex G did it over at Once in Somerville last night, and so did Australian future-soul collective Hiatus Kaiyote, who brought some summer heat to the Paradise Rock Club during an unusually chilly stretch of the season. Hiatus Kaiyote, led by the incredible voice of Nai Palm and a brilliant tag of “multi-dimensional, polyrhythmic gangster shit”, held court at the ‘Dise throughout the evening (no opener necessary), and the crowd ate up every minute of it. Vanyaland’s Eddy Leiva was in the trenches to snap a few shots of the action, and you can view his full gallery below.
